At most of our facilities, we barcode it with the rx number from the non-formulary order. We usually do not add it to the formulary.

Working on dictionaries in preparation. Current workflow: when patient is taking non formulary item, the pharmacy does not add this to the drug dictionary. They have a dictionary item called NFI. They zero the dose AND in dose instructions write the name of the drug, the dose (sometimes), pts own med (if applicable), and *pt specific* so the nurse knows where to go in the OmniCell.. I have had a consultant tell me that all non formulary items should be added to the dictionary for eMAR to display correctly. My pharmacy director is not in agreement.
