Meditech is working on eventually having available any drug from the
formulary service vendor available for order entry. I don't know when this
will be available, but it will solve the problem. We do add most
non-formulary drugs to the drug dictionary as they come up just to get the
allergy and interaction checking. At this point we haven't started working
on the e-MAR, so I can't answer to that. However, I think that users should
be aware of what is in the pipeline.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] pharmacy help needed

We are live on 5.5 SR3,have 5.61 in test and are anxiously awaiting the
eMAR desktop. Working on dictionaries in preparation.

Current workflow: when patient is taking non formulary item, the
pharmacy does not add this to the drug dictionary. They have a
dictionary item called NFI. They zero the dose AND in dose instructions
write the name of the drug, the dose (sometimes), pts own med (if
applicable), and *pt specific* so the nurse knows where to go in the
OmniCell..

I have had a consultant tell me that all non formulary items should be
added to the dictionary for eMAR to display correctly. My pharmacy
director is not in agreement.

Can anyone with eMAR give me guidance on this? Thanks in advance.
