You can use the RX number. A lot of places do that -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Alan Miller Sent: Friday, June 22, 2007 12:47 PM To: CHERYL TOOMEY; meditech-l@mtusers.com Subject: Re: [MEDITECH-L] pharmacy help needed
Sorry, Cheryl, I feel your Pharmacy's pain. How else will you be able to scan the difference between one NFI and another unless they have distinct mnemonics and barcodes? Unfortunately, Pharmacy ends up having to bite the bullet and doing the extra work necessary for this to happen. All the more reason to have a stricter NF policy (pipe dream). Working on dictionaries in preparation. Current workflow: when patient is taking non formulary item, the pharmacy does not add this to the drug dictionary. They have a dictionary item called NFI. They zero the dose AND in dose instructions write the name of the drug, the dose (sometimes), pts own med (if applicable), and *pt specific* so the nurse knows where to go in the OmniCell.. I have had a consultant tell me that all non formulary items should be added to the dictionary for eMAR to display correctly. My pharmacy director is not in agreement. Can anyone with eMAR give me guidance on this? Thanks in advance.
