Cheryl: we have been live with eMAR for over 1.5 years and use
non-formulary / patient's own med entries all the time.

They are not pretty, but our nurses have become accostumed to using
them.

We do exactly what you list below, enter the zero dose & use dose
instructions to enter in the actual med/dose.

We have them set up in POM as well so the docs can enter them (only the
most frequently used are set up for them to order). If the med is not
frequently used, then they use a CDS to enter in the appropriate
information.

Subject: [MEDITECH-L] pharmacy help needed

We are live on 5.5 SR3,have 5.61 in test and are anxiously awaiting the
eMAR desktop. Working on dictionaries in preparation.

Current workflow: when patient is taking non formulary item, the
pharmacy does not add this to the drug dictionary. They have a
dictionary item called NFI. They zero the dose AND in dose instructions
write the name of the drug, the dose (sometimes), pts own med (if
applicable), and *pt specific* so the nurse knows where to go in the
OmniCell..

I have had a consultant tell me that all non formulary items should be
added to the dictionary for eMAR to display correctly. My pharmacy
director is not in agreement.

Can anyone with eMAR give me guidance on this? Thanks in advance.
