If you look at RFC 5321, you'll see that 252 only applies to the
nearly forgotten VRFY and EXPN commands.

The design of SMTP quite clearly says that if you accept a message, you are 
responsible
for it and you should either deliver it or send back an NDN if not.  I realize 
that
modern practice somewhat deviates from this, but nobody's ever had much use for
notifications that "yes I delivered the mail" even though there's been a spec 
for
that for a long time.
