I don’t understand why SMBOX-2; simply apply the delete rule to the
SMBOX-1. Why is that a bad idea?

What are you actually seeing happen at Rule 2? Perhaps there is some
relationship between the Rules that is missing. Can you be more
specific on the settings, pls.
The code formatting seems to not have come through.
"Smart Mailbox 2" is a sub-mailbox of "Smart Mailbox 1" and "Rule" is
attached to "Smart Mailbox 2".
I would expect for "Smart Mailbox 2" to always be empty because any
messages that fall into it would be deleted by the rule (i.e., a
message is 15-days old and falls into "Smart Mailbox 2" and the rule
evaluates the message and permanetly deletes it). However, that is not
the case for me. Messages older than 14 days appear in "Smart Mailbox
2" and is never deleted by the rule.
Deleted Messages
__Smart Mailbox 1 [Filters for [email protected]]
____Smart Mailbox 2 [Filters for messages received not within the last
14 days]
_______Rule [Permanently deletes messages received not within the last
14 days]
