I'm with Bill on this but I'm also slightly flummoxed by so many IOS users:
I-Phones are so restrictive that I've never wanted one. OTOH, users seem really
happy with annual fees enforced through breaking compatibility, so what do I
know? ;-)

On Android, I've used K9 in the past but switched to FairEmail a few years ago,
while K9 was in the doldrums. I don't do a great deal of processing on the
phone, so can't comment on feature set but FairEmail has a similar development
release to MailMate so I was happy to pay for it. K9 is open source so a port
to IOS might be possible, if you're allowed to use the relevant components. Hm,
looks like K9 has been folded into Thunderbird and an IOS client is planned for
this year.
