guys,

I have what must be one of the original Airport Extreme Base Stations i
bought it when my wife bought her first Macbook hot off the line in 2003.
My current version of Airport Utility, I believe it's 6.3, claims it can't
be used to operate this Base Station. It sees it. that is, I have enough
vision to see an icon for a Base Station on my screen and that icon is
connected to a globe icon that represents the internet. VO says that the
device is connected to the internet and has a grey light. then it says,
click on the icon to bring up the popover. that's when VO says that my
Airport Utility is too old to deal with this.

Now, here's why I'm asking. I have an equally old Airport Express. I
plugged it in and it started glowing yellow. Now, it's slowly flashing
yellow. this means that it doesn't see my WI-FI network.

when I received the message saying that my Base Station was too old for the
software I had, I was told I could download Airport Utility Version 5.6.
Further reading told me that this version of Airport Utility could
peacefully coexist with my current version. so, I guess I could install
it. but, since my current version of Airport Utility seems to be able to
see my older than dirt Base Station, it stands to reason that it should at
least identify my older than Dirt Airport Express, even if it can't talk to
it. does that make sense? I guess my rambling point is that if the
current airport Utility can't even see the Airport Express, I don't see how
an older version would see it. And, if that's true, what do I do to make
my Airport Extreme and my Airport Express talk to one another the way they
did years ago? The Base Station is still doing its job as far as giving me
WI-FI in the house. so, I don't have any plans to scrap it. I just need
to know how to get this Airport Express on my network.

sorry for the long post.

Best,
Kevin1
