don't forget that pasting is different in list view than in column view. In column view, you can just highlight the folder you want to paste into and hit command v. In list view, you have to first open the folder. A good way to make sure you're on the right destination folder is to check what folder name finder shows in the title bar by vo left arrowing past the toolbar. Whatever name is reported there is the folder that will receive your pasted items.
