Indeed, now I've switched to Alex it's reading capitals as it's supposed to. 
But I hate the Alex voice. I have to set it to really, really slow to be able 
to understand it. Neither of the male or female Australian voices — my number 
one preference being Karen — read capitals properly, and Tom, the only US voice 
I like, also doesn't read capitals properly. I think Anne mentioned a UK voice 
called Fred. The only Fred I found was a US voice and sounded awfully robotic. 
The male UK voice I have is called Daniel. He doesn't sound crash hot either. 
Not sure if Daniel reads capitals properly.

Anyway, thanks all for helping me identify the problem. At least I can 
straighten things out with Apple accessibility who seem to think I'm losing my 
mind.
