bottom-line, if I buy it, I should be able to do with it as I please. I shouldn't have to buy a movie that I already own on DVD, from the app store or iTunes, just to be able to watch it on my iPhone, iPod, or appleTV. As long as I don't sell it, witch I am not, then I am not breaking any laws. But for those who want to know. Google says handbreak and VLC will do this for you with know issues.
