well, magnification users might get along better with the ipad. but i guess
you could ask the question, why would any one want the ipad? i mean the itouch
and the iphone have better hardware in them although the ipad is catching up.
they're smaller and easier to cary around. the battery life is at least as
good if not better. what's the point other than the larger screen size? it
just comes down to what makes you more comfortable. some blind touchscreen
users are uncomfortable on the larger screen, while it may make all the
difference for some one who has reduced fine motor control. Some of us share
visual type activities with sighted friends and family such as movie watching
or youtube browsing while others don't. one of my clients is a very high
partial vision but with no hearing at all. The ipad can let her use magnified
sms messaging and/or email to communicate with friends and family when she is
out, which a cell phone wouldn't allow for because she has no hearing and the
screen size is too small for magnification. so the ipad is a really good fit
for her. She can even use skype and facetime on the new ipad camera to
communicate directly using sign.

everyone's need and preferences and tastes are different, and because apple
doesn't rely on numerous companies to design myriad hardware configurations,
they have to put out many types of devices that apparently do the same thing in
the same way but are actually more geared toward individual preference.
