The only advantage to flashing your baseband is that you can unlock. Once you do so, you cannot go back, and Apple will be able to see what you've done. Also, you can only restore to custom firmware. Which, if you're an unlocker, you need custom firmware to keep your unlock. But again, flashing your baseband is only recommended if you have basebands 5.14.04 and 5.15.04. If you don't want to flash your baseband and you don't have a different baseband, just wait for another unlockable baseband to come out so you don't have to flash yours. It's that simple.
