I've done all the steps you describe exactly as you describe them, with this 
one exception:

I was told by my original audiologist that, to put the Icom in discoverable 
mode, you pressed and held in the recessed "reset," button on the unit's 
"underside."  What I believe you're calling the "pairing button," is also the 
power button, pressed and held in to either turn the Icom off or on, or to lock 
in a hardwired receiver mode?  If so, I have not pressed this button during the 
pairing process, but rather, as above, pressed and held in the reset button 
with a PDA stylus.

I cannot see the light indicating whether the Icom has gone into discoverable 
mode, so I may not be getting that far.  I'm glad to know someone's done it 
right; thanks. :)
