Hi Sharon: I would say you may not need to invest in Freedom Scientific's Open book for scanning. Your Mac will interface with many scanners, and you can do perfectly well using image capture and a good OCR program such as Abbyy Fine reader. It costs a lot less than Open book, and people are using it quite successfully. However, go with what you feel wil work best for you.
