Hi Geoff,

DMG viles are disk image files.  As Sarah said, you copy the appropriate .app 
file out of the .dmg file and paste into your applications folder.

Cut is considered destructive and mac OS won't let you do it to files.  This is 
one of the few irritating things about the mac operating system.  In any 
event,you need to delete the original if you don't want two copies.
Command delete will probably become available once you eject the disk image as 
Sarah Suggested.
