Hi Tim & Mark

Yes tim this promotion of icloud to primary would be my suggestion.

Shame this isnt’ an ms exchange related mail system,

I could have given him powershell commands to change this over.

Subject: Re: Apple mail insists upon replying from a dead me.com e-mail address
when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent
this

Hi mark,

At the moment, his primary eMail address for the Apple ID is the older
me.com<http://me.com> address with the iCloud being an alias of the older
original address. Yes, one could delete the alias and create a separate Apple
ID for this, but that does two negative things. First, if any purchases are
connected to the origianal Apple ID, they would no longer be associated with
the iCloud address which is the one he now uses. Second, I believe that the
iCloud alias address would be reserved for a period of time even though it has
been deleted, thus making it unusable until it is released for use. Sorry, I
did send the primary instructions to Kevin off-list already, although he told
me that it didn't work for him. Essentially, what I suggested was to promote
the iCloud address to be the primary Apple ID instead of the older
me.com<http://me.com> address. This should make it so that the outgoing
messages are definitely coming from the iCloud address.

Apple outlines the process here<https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT202667>.

After this has been done, I believe that the problem should be solved.
Although, Kevin mentioned that he was unsuccessful. We will be connecting in a
more direct way hopefully tomorrow to see where the problem lies. This process
is sound and should work and after 30 days or so, he should be able to delete
the older me.com<http://me.com> address. It will likely remain unable to be
deleted initially as it takes a bit to release the primary address as far as
I'm aware.

HTH.

Later...

Hello Kevin and Tim,

Unless list members have some kind of objection, I would ask that this thread
remain, on-list, as I would like to learn of Tim's solution to this problem.

Tim, as I see it, cannot Kevin simply remove his iCloud alias from his @me.com
Apple ID and turn it into its own, independent, Apple ID?

Mark

Guys,

Many years ago, I subscribed to a Reaper mailing list using my
kevj...@me.com<mailto:kevj...@me.com> address. This address is now long dead.
I have since unsubscribed and resubscribed to this mailing list using
kevj...@icloud.com<mailto:kevj...@icloud.com>. However, even though my e-mails
from this list come to my iCloud address, hitting reply automatically populates
the sending address as kevj...@me.com<mailto:kevj...@me.com>. If I don’t
happen to remember to click on the outgoing address and change it to
kevj...@icloud.com<mailto:kevj...@icloud.com>, the mail will be sent to nowhere
and it will take a few days for me to realize that the reason I haven’t heard
from whatever I asked about is because nobody saw what I wrote.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com<mailto:kevj...@me.com> is
toast. It is no longer present as a sender’s e-mail address. But it remains
as an option in the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails.
In fact, if I am currently highlighting an e-mail that came to my iCloud
account, initiating a blank e-mail appears to populate the From field with
kevj...@me.com<mailto:kevj...@me.com>, regardless of what e-mail address I
actually want in the From field. I can’t remove this me.com<http://me.com>
address as an option in the From field no matter what I do. Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Kevin
