Hi Mark and that is probably why I can change things as my addresses are
through office365 rather than apple icloud.com.

I also get the impression that here is more going on with the situation

when the original e-mail came to my iCloud.com address. Can't seem to prevent
this

Hello Simon,

I am postulating that he cannot swap Apple-owned aliases if any Apple-owned
email address is being used as an Apple ID.

His @me.com address is an Apple ID and it is permanently tied to that
particular account.

If, say, his current Apple ID was ke...@kevin.org and he has ke...@icloud.com
set as an alias, then, he could promote the kevin@iCloud address to be that
account's Apple ID. However, once done, Apple clearly states that
ke...@icloud.com would be the permanent email address for that particular
account because the @iCloud.com is owned by Apple.

In short, the only way one can continually swap out email addresses for any one
particular Apple account is if one uses third-party email addresses. Once an
Apple-owned email address is assigned to an account as its Apple ID, it cannot
be modified.

Mark

Hi Kevin & Tim,

Tim if I’m getting this correct then Mark actually did email something out last
week about this, Changing your apple id address, But Kevin you will need to as
tim will possibly confirm also that you need to swap your me.com And icloud.com
addresses over som the icloud address becomes the primary and the me.com
becomes the alias.

Guys,

Many years ago, I subscribed to a Reaper mailing list using my kevj...@me.com
address. This address is now long dead. I have since unsubscribed and
resubscribed to this mailing list using kevj...@icloud.com. However, even
though my e-mails from this list come to my iCloud address, hitting reply
automatically populates the sending address as kevj...@me.com. If I don’t
happen to remember to click on the outgoing address and change it to
kevj...@icloud.com, the mail will be sent to nowhere and it will take a few
days for me to realize that the reason I haven’t heard from whatever I asked
about is because nobody saw what I wrote.

I have tried my best to make sure that kevj...@me.com is toast. It is no
longer present as a sender’s e-mail address. But it remains as an option in
the list of e-mail addresses I can choose when sending e-mails. In fact, if I
am currently highlighting an e-mail that came to my iCloud account, initiating
a blank e-mail appears to populate the From field with kevj...@me.com,
regardless of what e-mail address I actually want in the From field. I can’t
remove this me.com address as an option in the From field no matter what I do.
Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Kevin
