Hi, A couple of things to consider:
1. Like with a finger-print iPhone, if the iPhone is off, it will require your pass-code. 2. Know that as soon as you wake the iPhone, it will start searching for your face. Consider this for the next item. 3. Make sure that Raise to Wake is turned off. This is in Settings, Display & Brightness. Disable it as it can cause the iPhone to start searching before you're ready. 4. As you note during the Face ID setup, the iPhone is looking at your face from multiple angles. Thus a perfect alignment is not necessarily needed. Make sure though that the face of the iPhone is pointed towards your face, and that it is a foot or more away when you hit the side button. As soon as the side button is pressed, the iPhone will begin searching for your face to authenticate. If you get the double-haptic vibration, it has accepted your face and you're ready to go. If you get the triple or quadruple haptic vibration, then it failed. In that case, press the side button, wait a second then press the side button again to let it try once more. 5. If there is a notification on the screen, like an iMessage, you can authenticate with Face ID, then simply double-tap on the notification to go stragiht to Messages without the need to do the swipe up from bottom to unlock gesture. HTH. Later... I had someone from Apple Support help me reset my face-id and it worked. However, i tried to unlock it several times with no success. Is there a certain way I should be holding my phone to make it work? iI have my attention features off and am just confused.
