Hi all,
Is there a way to combine libraries?

hey Randi!
holding down the option key when you launch iTunes will bring up the dialog about the library. that's how you switch from one library to the next. do that and find your library and you should be good to go! and that's how you can make more than one library!

Hmmm. Well since you're saying the problem occured because I might
have held down the option key, I wonder if I launch iTunes and hold
the option key, if it will ask me about the library again. I might try
that when I get to where I can tackle this problem. All the other
options sound really daunting, so I'd rather find the easiest route. I also thought about uninstalling iTunes and re-downloading it. I wonder
if that would do it.

SOmeone had previously recommended you either direct iTunes to use the previous copy of the library or just copy the library from the previous iTunes library folder back into the top-level of the iTunes folder. Of course if you use Time Machine, you can always restore the previous library from there as well. If all that fails, you can always reimport all of your music and if it is all tagged properly, you should end up with the same library you had before the upgrade. One other suggestion, when launching any program, instead of pressing VO-spacebar on the item, use command-o. This avoids the potential for the option key being trapped by the program, which is probably what happen.

Ok, this is good stuff to look at tomorrow. Do you know if there's
anyway to restore iTunes to before the update? Then I can just make
sure that library thing doesn't happen. I wish I had known, or just
quit it. Sounds like fixing it will be hard.

All you have to do is simply quit iTUnes in most cases and just restart it. I find where the issue shows itself is when you accidentally hold the option key down while iTunes is loading. This allows you to select an alternate iTunes library. WHenever iTunes comes up and asks me for a library, I just quit and relaunch iTunes and all is well.

Hello. In the future, when ITunes asks you to choose a library, you should browse to your music/itunes folder, then push the choose library button or whatever it is called.. That's actually where the Itunes library is. That's what I have to do a lot of times when software updates come out. Unfortunately, since you didn't do that this time, I'm not sure how to change it back.

Hi all,

I am restraining myself from calling Apple until tomorrow. I just did the latest iTunes software update, and when it was done, it asked me to pick a library. Huh? I think I just selected music. Well, all my stuff is gone. All of it. Gone. I'm freaking out and have shut down iTunes until I calm down and/or hopefully get some answers. If you have any ideas, please, please tell me. I have all my stuff on my
iPods, but not on a hard back up.

Thanks...
