Hi John,

You can go to Apple's VoiceOver Downloads Page for the VoiceOver Getting Started Guide for Snow Leopard:
http://www.apple.com/accessibility/voiceover/downloads.html
This is also available in audio format on your system.

In addition to the formats mentioned and linked at Apple's VoiceOver Downloads page (HTML guide, way to order Braille copy, etc.), Greg Kearney has made a version of this guide available in Daisy format: VoiceOver Getting Started (Snow Leopard) is DAISY format has been produced by the Association for the Blind of Western Australia and can be downloaded from the following URL:
http://www.cucat.org/tmp/vogs_sl.zip
This is a full text full audio DAISY version 2.02 digital talking book with navigation at the chapter and subsection level and page numbers supported. Alternatively, you can get an RTF copy of the guide from the Apple accessibility team.
HTH
Cheers,
Esther

Is there a new VO user document that covers this, and more? A tutorial where a newbie can turn? I'm an old Mac user, but want to start using VO more and more. I prefer some kind of tutorial over just lists of commands.

Some of the reasons I'd like to use VO is that Zoom has so many focus problems. And since it's been that way since Tiger I'll assume apple is likely not going to do much about it.

And I do prefer good keyboard access in any case.

First of all, there are two ways of navigating websites: DOM and Groups. I have set a hot key in Keyboard Commander to switch between these modes as I prefer Groups mode in general, but DOM mode for reading articles straight through.

DOM mode only allows you to move left and right, but Groups mode lets you move in all directions. Groups mode collects items together into Groups like paragraphs. You can interact with a group to examine what's inside more closely. It all depends on how a website is coded as to whether you can read line by line.

Now for Quick Nav. Turn Quick Nav on by pressing the left and right arrows at the same time smartly.
Interact with an item by pressing the right and down arrows together.
