I have never had Apple Music and will never have it.
This has nothing to do with wireless synching.
As far as I am aware it is nothing to do with iCloud either but simply a way
of transferring content without a cable.
I am not on my Mac at the moment but I will have a look on Google to see if
wireless synch is still an easy option.

Subject: Re: Can't transfer music from iTunes 12.7x to iPhone 7 that
isrunningiOS 10.x. Why not?

Let me add some more information.  I avoided joining Apple Music because I have
some content on my computer that is not commercially released and I was given
to understand that joining Apple Music might erase that kind of private content
from my library if AM couldn't match it.  I just read a new article about
turning on iCloud Music Library that said something about having the choice to
merge your content on your devices with Apple Music.  This sounds like it
should prevent the erasure of private, noncommercial recordings.  but don't
want to screw with it right now.     In any event, still don't know how to
change the settings related to my iPhone in iTunes on my Mac because, when the
phone is connected, the QWERTY keyboard is toast.  Further, even with my
Trackpad, which does work in all cases, I can't see how to get to the devices
tab in a way where I could make these changes anyway.
