Yeah, I too will settle for an adaptor.  All this interest Apple is taking in 
HD audio is very promising: if it results in a digital pathway for audio, 
high-end cans with digital input, and an ecosystem of music that hasn’t 
perished in the great battle to stay glorious despite horrible lossy encoding 
and calamitous post-processing that is so often the norm nowadays, then I for 
one will be happy.  On the other hand, it’s quite interesting to see just how 
little negative comment there has been on the loss of the 3.5 mm jack on this 
thread.  How Apple changes minds. :)

And Apple have gone back on their designs before.  The closest contemporary 
example is the MacBook Air, which—if you will remember—started out just as the 
MacBook 12-inch did, with just the one USB port.  It now has two, plus one 
Thunderbolt.
