Eileen, great questions let me try to help clear things up a little.
Apple TV really isn’t a set top box replacement like your FIOS box. Apple TV
is a box that grabs content from any number of sources (all of which re on the
Internet) and puts them together in a package that’s easy to access. So when
you fire up your Apple TV you will get things like Netflix, Hulu, MLB TV, HBO
and so forth. You pick the app or type of content you want to run and then
choose your programming from there. The new Apple TV will also allow you to
install applications that do other things like possibly shopping or weather and
so forth. So while you can get much of the same content on an Apple TV that
you would on your FIOS box it’s using the Internet instead of the TV portion of
your service. In many cases it’s less expensive to get your content this way.
If the shows you want are on Netflix then it’s $8 per month instead of $100 for
the TV service. More and more content will be available on the Apple TV.
The advantage for a blind user is voiceover is enabled on the Apple TV
as an option. You can hear where in the menus you are, what application you’re
on, all your settings and everything. Imagine if your FIOS box spoke all the
menus and everything, this would be a similar experience. Since your FIOS box
doesn’t to my knowledge this would be your most accessible TV device.
