Multi User dungeongames. Text based gamming. Most of which have communication abilities for you to talk to other players, quite often within a clan based system or class based system or both. There a large amount of them of all different flavors depending on what your interests are. Some are based on series of books so would have been best to have read those books I suppose. Mud is also refered to a format as is Mu or a mush. For example mudlegend is a mud, Mariani is a mu I think, but a lot of these aplications will handle multipal types of games.
