I had to learn to do a copy this weekend. I was in TextEdit. Once I had the cursor in the right location, I did VO return then used the arrow keys to select the desired text. Not VO arrow keys, just the arrow keys alone. When I selected all the text I did VO return again and then command c then command v where I wanted to paste the text.

Dear Gigi,

Thank you so much for trying. Like you, I've discovered the copying of the
entire document from Preview into a TextEdit document. The formatting is
preserved although I can't say to what extent.

Anne's method will help me copy just a couple of words which is the case from
time to time, like for instance a license number or a telephone number. But
your method is a clever one.

Best wishes

Hi there
It may not work in Preview, but I just tested the ability to copy text using
PDf Pen Pro. I couldn't figure out how to select using shift down arrow, but I
did command A and copied to the clipboard. Then I went to TextEdit, and pasted
it into a file. It worked, although I have no idea if it kept the formatting.
It talked fine, though.

I used a short form to test this. If you want, I can use a longer form to test
it and see what happens.

You can't copy text from the Preview Payne as I've tried it in the past as it's
not accessible I don't think.

Hello Andrew,

The command you are using to try to select text is the command for selecting
non-contiguous items. The command you want is VO-Return at the beginning and
end of the text you wish to select. You should hear a whooshing sound as you
select the text.

You could also try the usual way of selecting text, Shift plus arrow keys.

Cheers,

Anne

Listers,

I am trying to copy some text to clipboard in Preview. I activate the select
command with vo+command+return, i hear the familiar sound, and then I use
vo+arrow keys to select the text I want. I then press vo+command+return to
finish selecting and press the usual command+c command to copy to clipboard.
But when I go to paste it to another application, like textEdit, nothing gets
copied. I hear a bong that tells me there's nothing on the clipboard. I tried
copying the selected text without the final vo+command+return but got the same
nul result. Has anyone been able to copy text successfully in Preview with
Voiceover?

Andrew
