The other thing I have noticed in Mavericks and iOS 7 with the Karen voice is
that it pronounces some vowel sounds incorrectly. Use Karen in Mavericks or iOS
7 to read the following word fragments, which all end in the letter a for
alpha, and hear what I mean:
1. cinta Jacinta, dinta finta, linta.
2. Cinta Jacinta, Finta dinta, lintu.
3. minta nita.
Some of the 'a' sounds at the end are pronounced correctly, some incorrectly.
Interestingly, the word 'Jacinta' on line one is pronounced incorrectly, but
the exact same word on line 2 is pronounced correctly. The thing that makes the
difference is the word which comes after it. However, even on line 2, though
'Jacinta' is pronounced correctly if read in context of the whole line, it is
pronounced incorrectly if you just read it one word at a time. The same for the
word in that sentence I just wrote, as well as the word 'minta' on line 3.
It's very weird behaviour. None of this weirdness existed in Mountain Lion or
iOS 6. It has ironically been introduced with iOS 7 and Mavericks which were
meant to bring enhanced quality voices but have only introduced more bugs.
I think it would be good to let Nuance know about these issues because
something odd seems to be going on. If anyone knows who to contact or wishes to
pass this on I'd appreciate it.
Cheers,
Nic
