Hi,
You can open a link in a new tab by pressing cmd-enter.
   You can bring up a context menu in the usual way with vo-shft-m for  
more options.  I find it a little odd that you haven't tried that.
Just as a side note, You can open Safari help and type keyboard in the  
search field to see all of the shortcuts.
