Not certain about Ubuntu, but in Debian its /usr/share/lyx. So maybe Ubuntu installs the files there as well, though it has forked quite a bit from Debian according my reading. whereis lyx lyx: /usr/bin/lyx /usr/share/lyx /usr/share/man/man1/lyx.1.gz I am using lyx 1.4.4 so it may be different? But there is a great deal of stuff in there, including a directory named <ui>. Needless to say I have no problems with this version of Lyx.
