Oh, sorry, I'm not sure why I thought you were on a Mac. In that case,
everything should be in /usr/local/share/lyx/. The problem may be that
you have an older install of LyX in /usr/share/lyx. Check that, or try
running LyX as: lyx -sysdir /usr/local/share/lyx. I've seen this kind of
problem before.
