egcs-1.1.2 or egcs-2.91.66 are both broken. You *will* crash this
compiler when attempting to compile lyx-1.2.0.

I think both Tim and Richard have found this out.

You need to upgrade to at least gcc-2.95.1 for LyX to compile.

If you install gcc-2.95.3 on your machine, it may work. If not, a simple
``rpm --rebuild'' will fix it for you (without a crash in gcc).
