  It occurred to me as the attempt progressed that a problem with
imcompatible libraries would have been caught during the configure stage,
not the compilation stage.

  Why I see this error I've no idea. But, I need to get to some project work
so I'll not be working on this until this evening at the earliest. (That's
evening on the left side of the US. :-) )
