My experience with newsgroups has been that I hang out for awhile and then drop off. With mailing lists, I hang around until I have reason to unsubscribe (i.e. I don't need the info anymore). My experience is that you get more answers quicker on a mailing list, and you get to know the list dwellers better. When I was on both the Samba newsgroup and the Samba mailing lists, the mailing lists were so much more vibrant and informative that I quit looking at the newsgroups. Which is my way of saying, PLEASE don't drop the mailing list. If you want a newsgroup also, (what's the emoticon for shrugging your shoulders?).
