Initially I thought that would be a good idea, but now I wonder...
if the mailing list was gatewayed, then the mailing list would be
subject to all the *dis*advantages of a newsgroup -- that is, more spam,
no way to boot off people who abuse the list, and so on.  So I am not so
certain that it would be a good idea.
Of course, one problem with having them completely separate is that I
doubt that many people would have the time to keep up with both.
And anyway, I would not subscribe to a newsgroup.  I haven't read
newsgroups for quite a few years.
