Ahhh, I did wonder if I was getting the wrong end of the stick somewhere.

If you don't fiddle with the key it does go odd if you add extra references.
So, my advice to my users (and myself) will be "always choose a key for each
reference yourself".

I don't think I saw this in the documentation, I'll check it again. (rushing
to get a paper done means you skim through Manuals at best).
