Paragraph creation/deletion induce a delay on windows. The attached
patch get rid of the delay for two common cases. I am not sure
there's a problem on Mac if you could try, that would be great.
There's no special problem with paragraph creation/deletion on Mac,
and I don't notice that this patch has any effect, either positive or
negative.
Major Mac speed problems now mostly concern scrolling speed (which
even affects spellchecking, when the misspelled word requires a jump
to a new point in the document). Typing speed is still unacceptable
on slow machines, though (which has motivated my switch to Linux on
my old laptop: LyX on Linux is *much* faster all around).
