Hi,
Sh.exe is in the path for me. I am not sure whether this is the problem,
but when I first installed lyx 1.3.6, I had 1.3.5 already installed. But
subsequently, I uninstalled everything and started from scratch.

There's no conflict between 1.3.5 and 1.3.6.

Since
it didn't work even then, the last time around, I went to registry and
deleted all the references to lyx and mys and started all over again.

I assume that means reinstalling both msys and 1.3.6.

Still no Tex information.
Another thing is: When I run msys from the dos prompt window, I get the
following message
C:\Documents and Settings\Sreekumar>msys
Cannot find the rxvt.exe or sh.exe binary -- aborting.
Press any key to continue . . .

Don't know if these issues are related.

No. I get the same thing, so I took a look at the msys.bat batch file. Don't ask me why, but it's written so as to work only if it's started from the parent of the bin directory (C:\Program Files\msys\1.0 in a default installation).

Sorry, I should have read your first post more carefully. Turns out this is a bug in the 1.3.6 port. Looks like someone forgot to tweak the scanning commands to allow spaces in the path. I'll post this to bugzilla. Meanwhile, as far as I can tell, there shouldn't be any problem actually using your various text classes, .bst files etc.; you just won't be able to list them in View->TeX Information.
