Hi,
Sh.exe is in the path for me. I am not sure whether this is the problem,
but when I first installed lyx 1.3.6, I had 1.3.5 already installed. But
subsequently, I uninstalled everything and started from scratch.
There's no conflict between 1.3.5 and 1.3.6.

Since
it didn't work even then, the last time around, I went to registry and
deleted all the references to lyx and mys and started all over again.
I assume that means reinstalling both msys and 1.3.6.

Still no Tex information.
Another thing is: When I run msys from the dos prompt window, I get the
following message
C:\Documents and Settings\Sreekumar>msys
Cannot find the rxvt.exe or sh.exe binary -- aborting.
Press any key to continue . . .

Don't know if these issues are related.
No. I get the same thing, so I took a look at the msys.bat batch file. Don't ask me why, but it's written so as to work only if it's started from the parent of the bin directory (C:\Program Files\msys\1.0 in a default installation). Sorry, I should have read your first post more carefully. Turns out this is a bug in the 1.3.6 port. Looks like someone forgot to tweak the scanning commands to allow spaces in the path. I'll post this to bugzilla. Meanwhile, as far as I can tell, there shouldn't be any problem actually using your various text classes, .bst files etc.; you just won't be able to list them in View->TeX Information. PaulSH: 1.3.5 required making a file association with sh.exebut 1.3.6 does not, there is no default file associationcreated. Since most people have access to tex informationwithout ever making a file association, I doubt that file associations are part of a solution. For instance, I havemy .sh extensions set to an editor.exe, which is invoked by double-clicking and this has no impact on viewing tex information; I see no relationship, so no solution withchanging or creating file associations to the problem.(I use the command shell to invoke sh.exe --> *.sh)I followed the Wiki installation instructions recommendingto install programs in directories without spaces, and thereason given was that it was possible one of LyX's helperapps might have trouble with spaces. The docs recommendinstalling Msys in C:\Msys and Mingw in C:\Mingw for Win.Also I used Windows Explorer to get to C:\Msys\1.0\msys.batand create a shortcut for the desktop by right-clicking onmsys.bat. I find that easier than opening a command promptwhich defaults to C:\documents and setting\... which stillrequires changing to the directory where msys.bat is located.Oddly enough, on my machine the default installation forMsys is C:\Msys\1.0 not "Program Files" unless it has amemory of my prior install (I just checked this.). So ifthis is the case, one would need to depart from the defaultinstall directory and doc recommendations, thus this is auser created installation problem even if using spaces inthe directory path should be Ok; I suppose I better add IMO.Regards,Stephen
