This was only a shot in the dark. What happens if you start lyx with
-dbg tclass? It should print lots of lines like
Does it find textclass.lst?
Yes, it does. And the overall debug output looks quite reasonable.
More mystery: If I run LyX with "-dbg tclass", open a new document, and go
to Document>Settings, the dialog is almost empty (only the buttons on the
bottom are shown). This does not happen all the time, sometimes the dialog
is fine, some other times LyX crashes. To me this looks like some
uninitialized variable. I would have expected all this to be a QT Win/Free
bug but LyX 1.3.6 works pretty well.
Has anybody used the famous valgrind tool in the last couple of weeks? I
think it would be a good if some Linux guy ran it for, say, half an hour,
clicking on various menu items and doing some editing. Anybody volunteering?
(I would but I don't have a Linux system anymore :-( )
