"lyx -help" seems pretty fundamental functionality to me...
As does any problems in finding the various paths required by LyX.

At the moment, these messages can be output in <choose your language> 
because the location of LyX's locale directory is essentially hard-coded. 
That's not the case on either the Mac or on Windows.

So, let me ask why you think that users on such systems should have these 
messages output only in English?
