And that, it appears, is exactly what the problem is. New technique (to you, not me) therefore bad technique? Gimme a break. It's not even complicated code. I have proposed and coded up one solution which works. I don't see why this solution is causing you all pain but I am not going to waste my time jumping through someone else's hoops. ATM, NO messages will be translated in LyX 1.4.x. Perhaps those of you who prefer LyX to communicate with you in your native language will be motivated to do something about the problem. Angus
