The most expectable behaviour would be to select an item in the "Selected" 
browser and than press "Deselect". I'd rather separate the two brosers a bit 
more. Also note that this button is placed under the selected browser. So it 
should perform action in that browser.

But if we commit this with the hard-coded color sheme, custom colors will 
never be possible. Switching from hard-coded to custom colours eventually is 
a real pain. Then I'd rather leave out the color thing completely until a 
better xforms solution is available. Remember that custom colours are also 
impossible in qt frontend only because xforms does not provide a color 
picker.

I understand that, OTOH I think that the branch thing does not really depend 
on the colour settings. If you do not have the time to create a real good 
colour handling, just apply it without that feature and add it when it's 
ready.
