What does 'refuse to use tracking' mean here? Tracking can be very useful even when one cannot run latex. What we could do now, though, is to require "dvipost" only when we have some change insets, not when change tracking is on. This would make things simpler, I think. John, why is the 'change tracking' toggle useful from an UI point of view? Does there need to be a change tracking mode? John> I think you're correct ... I just am not sure how. If we want to know which packages are available, all we need to do is to parse the packages.lst file, which is quite easy (of course, we may want to add more info in this file). Then we open a can of worm wrt what we want to do with this file. This is the whole problem of allowing to use features when the relevant package is not installed. In general, I think that shipping latex things with LyX is to be avoided. John> It is not hard to install. And more importantly, could you ask him to upload his package to ctan? This is the best way to have this eventually find its way in distributions like teTeX. It may be necessary to ask teTeX people to add it (although in this case it may need support for kpathsearch library). JMarc
