Why not extend the InsetSpecialChar? We could have a (right-mouse-button)
popup there to change from one special char to the other and special
options for special chars. Should be easy IMO. In the same time we should
change the save format of this inset and adopt a <xml> like syntax.
I've seen that using such a syntax is really nice as "feature" addition
can also be read in older version (they are ignored) and don't produce
an error when reading. I've seen this with the new InsetTabular format
as I can now add new features, but the resulting files can still be read
without problems by older lyx-versions!!! (important here would be a
fallback default value)
