Right. I'd suggest further that Unix itself is kind of anti-sandbox. The whole idea is to have a bunch of tools that do very specific things and paste them together to get them to do more complicated things.
LyX can use the development SDK and its extensions if they prove useful.
I don't think that's very likely among the current team. We have enough to do keeping up with three OSs. Of course, if someone wanted to start doing that work, then they could do that.
As suggested, I incorporated the tools I was told were necessary and added information about the package's limitations.
It does get LyX's basic functionality working, yes.
I believe the verification process is important because it assures the user that the software they install comes from a trusted source.
