Of course, any member of the development team can take control of
the repository associated with the package or simply assume the
supervisory role.
If some member of the development team is interested in doing this,
then of course they can do that. Would they would also need to take
over building the package? If so, how is that done?
In the context of https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/13252 I had a short
look at the flatpak package last year. IMHO LyX is not suitable for
flatpak, unless you are willing to give up much of its extensibility,
because the interaction with many other tools contradicts sandboxing
concepts like flatpak.
I recently got an iPad, partly because I wanted to be able to try some
of the musical instruments, like GeoShred, that are available for it,
and partly because I needed a new tablet for work. I have found using it
to be extremely frusatrating, because of this whole sandboxing thing.
The FTP client I downloaded can only save files to a very limited number
of locations. Even the Files tool that comes with the iPad seems to have
access only to its own set of locations. So when I download a file from
my server, it's a huge hassle to get it to open in, say, an Open
Document reader. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but I consider myself
pretty savvy with these things, so if it's hard for me to figure out....
I agree however that something needs to be done, since the current
package at https://github.com/flathub/org.lyx.LyX violates
https://docs.flathub.org/docs/for-app-authors/requirements#control-over-domain-or-repository.
Either a LyX developer takes ownership of the repo, or the lyx.org
prefix needs to be removed.
Agreed.
One thing I have never understood is why people are so reluctant just to
build LyX themselves. It isn't that hard.
