Does it make sense to have another option "auto" that automatically chooses the best strategy? That way we could assume that the previous default was auto and be done with it. I am aware that I am leaving many details on the air. My motivation for this reasoning, other than to take care of the conversion from previous versions, is also to assume that if I change from X11 to Wayland (and vice-versa) we get the best choice available.
