I've run into several users who didn't think to look in the context menu for some behavior they wanted. One must be judicious so the status bar doesn't fill up with extraneous items; however, at times when this issue does apply the status bar seems reasonable to me. It's a break with the general UI design trend; however, in this case, the approach seems reasonable to me.
