This is now solved: I locally deactivated a number of auto-installed
fonts that I don't use - including FreeMono.

It is from the Debian package "t1-cyrillic" (Free Times, Free
Helvetian, Free Courier, Free Avant Garde, Free Paladin, Free Schoolbook,

In the GUI, we now even have a "go to temp dir" button in the log window ...

For command line export, I suggest a new option --keep-temporary-dir
that would do exactly this and print the name of the temp dir to stdout:

  temporary files in <tempdir>/
