I then conclude that we better get rid of this
"use geometry package" option. I can't see any
benefit of having a checkbox; it only will cause
confusion :(.

Let the LyX-user decide whether or not to change
the margins and/or papersize. LyX should then be
"clever" enough to decide when to use the geometry
package.
(That's what we have computers for: to make such
trivial decisions without bothering the user!).
